After a short break to recharge my batteries, I've come back to this blog, delighted to see what is planned for Newsnight Review, which was one of the first things I blogged about.
It seems Janice Hadlow, controller of BBC2, has decided to review Newsnight Review. It was back in September that I prepared a wishlist for the new controller which included the proposal for a substantial overhaul of BBC2's arts, culture and media coverage.
However, my recipe also included the suggestion that Newsnight should be trimmed to 30 minutes - instead there's talk of even extend Newsnight Review. Why not open up Friday night post-Newsnight through to midnight and implement another of my suggestions - open up a new documentary arts slot for independent producers. It could take the place of one of my other suggestions - tendering the Culture Show, which seems unlikely now it is being despatched to Glasgow.
And who knows, why shouldn't the idea of an extending the Newsnight slot from 11.15pm catch on in other areas - foreign and business news come to mind as obvious candidates for dedicated post-Newsnight review programming and documentaries.
